Guy earns $30,000 for a simple website – then gets arrested and given 18 years in prison!

Guy earns $30,000 for a simple website – then gets arrested and given 18 years in prison!

DO NOT DO THIS! – This is an example of where you can go massively wrong in life

Kevin Bollaert was convicted and sentenced on April 3rd 2015 to 18 years in prison for setting up two websites.

1) changemyreputation.com – Where people would pay to have explicit photos removed of them from certain websites

2) ugotposted.com – Where anonymous users posted nude photos without the subject’s consent and guess what it linked through to the 1st website if anyone wanted photos removed.

What made the whole ‘business’ worse, was that the anonymous users submitting photos could only do so if the photos were accompanied with the full name, address, age and social media profiles of the photo’s subject. These personal details were then shared alongside the photos which obviously would become searchable via the internet or in some of these cases enabled online strangers to harass/contact the people photographed both of which subsequently led to people losing jobs, damaged relationships and one attempted suicide.

Bollaert was convicted of 21 counts of identity theft and six counts of extortion, with more than 10,000 images, mainly of women on his website users were charged $250-$350 to have them removed.

This is the first time a person has been tried for a owning a ‘revenge porn ring’ in the US and hopefully it will put a stop to the whole thing.

What is I become a subject of revenge porn or cyber exploitation?

If you believe you’re a subject of revenge porn or cyber exploitation, contact the Police immediately, record details of everything that has happened, everyone involved, the possible motivation etc. Failure to act quickly on something like this can make it more difficult to prosecute.
