Christmas is ruined – Cadbury to make Roses & Heroes Choc Boxes even smaller!

Christmas is ruined – Cadbury to make Roses & Heroes Choc Boxes even smaller!

Mondelez (American Owners of Cadbury) aren’t happy with just changing the 44 year old recipe of the chocolate in tons of their products to inferior (in our opinion) / cheaper ingredients they will now continue to reduce pack sizes with Roses going from a gross weight of 780g to 729g and Heroes from 780g to 695g.

Although this diagram doesn’t show the exact changes it does show our point

Tony Bilsborough, of Cadbury’s told the Telegraph: “Like many food manufacturers, we have found costs increasing…

“It is important we keep Cadbury Roses an affordable treat.” however at £9.19 the price hasn’t lowered just the amount of chocolate you get? So consumers are getting less for their money.

In 2010 Cadbury was taken over by Kraft (now known as Mondelez) then in 2011 the Cadbury heiress, Felicity Loudon, attacked Kraft saying that it ‘doesn’t give a damn’ about the UK as they looked at shutting down the British factories, she went on to say: ‘They couldn’t afford Cadbury so they are having to cut costs everywhere they can.’

Rounded Corners of Dairy Milk Bars = 4g saving of chocolate (same price) + Reduced the size of the 140g bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk to 120g (2011)

Also in another change to the famous chocolates, all of them inside the box will be sealed like chocolate bars (i.e. you have to tear to open) instead of twist to open.
The brand is getting quite a hitting after the change from Cadbury Dairy Milk (launched in 1905) in the Creme Eggs (1971) to the standard milk chocolate found in standard easter eggs.

Other changes that customers seemed to have hated:

  • Goodbye Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Coins – 2014
  • Rounded Corners of Dairy Milk Bars = 4g saving of chocolate (same price), have been the same since 1905
  • Two fingers up at their pensioners – If you worked for Cadbury’s for a long time they would send you a small hamper each Christmas to say thank you. All 14,000 of these got scrapped when Mondelez needed to ‘plug the pension black hole’
  • Changed the 44 year old Cadbury Creme egg recipe
  • Replaced Bourneville Chocolate Bars with Toblerone in boxes of Heroes
  • Reduced the size of the 140g bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk to 120g, losing the equivalent of two chunks – 2011
  • Cut the size of its Roses tins from 975g to 850g – effectively snatching away 11 chocolates – 2011

Has Mondelez (Kraft) ruined the Cadbury's brand

I wondered why I’d gone off creme eggs, I was in love with them as a kid! But it doesn’t matter now anyway because I watched cowspiracy & will only be eating dairy free chocolate from now on!
