£20,000 worth of Jammie Dodgers stolen

Five men have been sentenced to jail terms of between 16 and 44 months for the theft of a trailer containing £20,000 worth of Jammie Dodgers (estimated to be 240,000 Jammie Dodgers).

The court heard that the gang traveled from Liverpool to Gwent on the 17th June 2015 to carry out the theft, gaining access to the factory site (Burton’s food factory in Torfaen) in stolen vehicles, posing as staff from delivery firm DHL.

The biscuits were never recovered.

Price and Edgerton also pleaded guilty to stealing a trailer full of nearly 2,000 cases of Carling worth more than £43,000.

Stupidest crime this year?

Jason Howells, prosecuting, said:

“The stock was estimated to have a retail value of £20,000 with a production value of around £12,000.

“None of the items have been recovered.”

Defence lawyers said not all of the defendants had been involved in the planning of the thefts but each played a role.

As the defendants left the dock, one was heard saying:

Does anyone want a biscuit?

Important things to remember with everything we post:

  • If you earn over your personal allowance (currently £12,570 a year) HMRC need to get their % cut (even if the money is in cash or from another country)
  • If you’re working for yourself / earning an income on the side you need to let HMRC know – There are numerous benefits but also some drawbacks
  • You need to always ensure whatever you’re doing is legal and not hurting anyone else – be careful and always think twice
  • Some income streams may require you to have DBS check, licence, insurance or qualifications before you can start to profit from it, do your research.
  • Be careful that any additional income doesn’t compromise your studies or main income/job
  • If you work for a company check your contract, if you don’t inform them you’re working on other side projects outside of work they may have grounds to ownership on this work
