“Hot Girls Wanted” – Porn truths

WARNING: At no point do we condone this, however we know more and more people are looking at these ‘jobs’ due to the sheer quantity of money on offer so it’s important that we show people the true story to ensure anyone that is interested knows the risks up front.

We repeat, we do not condone this or recommend it at all.

This post is primarily discussing the documentary ‘Hot Girl Wanted’, which shows the massive steps young 18-24 year old girls are taking for a career in porn.

“Sometimes the girls know what they’re getting into, but often they don’t” – Jill Bauer (director)

Porn companies / talent agents are actively trying to encourage 18 year old girls/women to fly across the country in the hope of ‘making it big’, some are only finding out it’s porn related when they meet their talent agents for the first time.

Support from your family can be difficult however some will understand and support you

If you put the the fact it’s pornography to one side, it seems the most shocking part of the programme is that these teen girls can go from the ‘most exciting’ new entry into the adult entertainment field to someone looking for a new career all within a 1-6 months.

“The shelf life for a girl really depends on how a girl markets herself, worst case scenario 1-3 months, all right scenario 3-6 months, best case scenario if she doesn’t catch on to the game, a year tops” – John Anthony (male pornstar)

“They’ll shoot a girl a couple times and be done with her,” – Talent agent Riley says in the film.

Major amateur porn companies typically book a new girl 2 or 3 times, unless she is a breakout success she will have to accept more niche-oriented jobs in order to keep working.

The possible negatives:

  • You’re being paid to have sex, just think about that for a moment.
  • Mental and potentially physical scars.
  • People will treat you different outside of porn
  • A short career life span
  • Unexpected pregnancy
  • Kidnap / Meeting strangers who know a lot about you
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • “He kind of hurt me”
  • Being ‘forced’ to do something you’re not completely comfortable with
  • Disappointment to your family, friends etc
  • Body image is a big part of the industry, this could lead to plastic surgery etc
  • Hiding your career from friends, family etc
  • This career decision will follow you for the rest of your life
  • The photos / videos will never go away, they will be on a website somewhere forever
  • Looks like girls have to all live together in communal housing
  • Fans
  • Relationships with someone outside of the industry
  • “Yeh it’s kind of creepy”
  • “It can’t be good for you to have sex with so many people, it’s kind of weird that it’s my job”
  • ‘Standard porn’ can lead to aggressive porn (brutal in fact aka ‘abuse porn’ aka ‘hardcore’)

Become part of a group of people all doing a similar thing

“There is an influx of girls trying to do porn. And a lot of them know it’s a trap but it’s the money there in their face, right now. Cash! They take it. And just hope for the best.” – John Anthony (male pornstar)

“Most girls, whenever I was in the industry, would always say yes to anything,” Tressa says in the documentary. “If it has a dollar sign in front of it, sign me up.”

The possible positives:

  • The money (although short lived)
  • Freedom to work when you want (in theory)
  • You may enjoy the work
  • You MIGHT make it big… (become famous, think Kim Kardashian & Jenna Jameson)
  • Fans

The pay?

First of all the myth that all pornstars are just very sexual is exactly that a myth, the majority of them seem to do it for one thing. The money but the problem with that is it’s short lived.

“[Rachel]In the amateur porn world, you’re just processed like meat. Everything is the same shoot. Like it’s always your first time. And you’re just well like, I’m dumb as hell and I need $500 and I’m just gonna get this random dude that I would never have sex with in real life and have sex with him and say things that I would never say and do things that I would never do. And it’s like all about the guy getting off. Like the girl’s just there to help. As long as you have boobs and a vagina and an ass, that’s all that really matters. They don’t care about who you actually are.”

“[Rachel]… I make $900 in 5 hours. Then I’m gonna go home and make $8.25 an hour[talking about a ‘normal job’]? No. No. No. No no no.”

“2 shoots for $2500 (£1500) but it’s bondage.”

It seems that the women look at alternative revenue streams to supplement income including web cam shows

[Rachel] I was in California. And I had like a blowjob scene and I was like, for sure. $300 for a blowjob scene? That’s nothing. You go there you don’t even have sex. Cool. I go there, and he’s like, oh yeah, it’s a forced blowjob. And I’m like… what? Just one guy. One little camera on a tripod. I don’t… fuck. I was scared. I was terrified. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know if I could tell him no. Or the fact that we already recorded 15 minutes of it, if I could just fucking leave. Like, then what? Then I understanded like that’s how rape victims feel. They feel bad about themselves. But then, that’s where it all comes in like, “Did I really want money that bad?”

[Tressa]Being a pornstar was very expensive and it sucked because you’re always spending money. Rent, underwear and bras, nails, makeup, food, flights, and then, we had to take 10% for Riley. I only made $25,000 in 4 months. And after I got out of porn I only had $2,000 left in my bank account.

How the girls appeared to make it safer:

  • Sexually transmitted disease tests every 14 days or sooner
  • Urine samples, blood tests etc

“Recent research shows that nearly 40% of online pornography depicts violence against women” – Hot Girls Wanted”

The show can currently be streamed on Netflix

Your last warning:

We don’t know the whole truth about the industry and we can’t speak on behalf of the girls on the show, at the very least it appears to be a very extreme emotional rollercoaster and some of the stories were quite horrific.
We suggest you watch the whole documentary to make your own mind up on the matter.
The money seems good however short lived and even after working for longer periods of time you can still leave the industry and not have anything really to show for it.
We highly suggest you look at alternative methods of earning money.
