How to buy the perfect gift for someone

How to buy the perfect gift for someone
  • An old favourite, tell them you’ve got them an amazing gift and get them to guess what it is. Boom some good ideas (also useful if another friend/family member is struggling for ideas).
  • Stalk them on social (e.g. Pinterest / Twitter etc)
  • Log on to their Amazon account to see their recommended products which will show you what they’ve been looking at! Failing that compare the Amazon Bestsellers or search for deals on our page.
  • Get them something standard but make them laugh by putting it inside a crap gift, e.g. wrapping a new Amazon Kindle inside a Donald Trump Autobiography.
  • Compare their existing items and pick a related experience e.g. someone who enjoys reading Harry Potter. Make them a Hogwarts acceptance letter and take them on a tour of London.

  • Make a list of their hobbies, spend 2 minutes on each hobby writing down as many things as you can think of. Combine ideas to find something unique.
  • Gather groups of friends, family together and do something together, then just buy lunch for the Birthday / Special person. Our list of 100 things to do may help.
  • Create something that is personal, e.g. make something by hand for them. Example: a DIY Dreamcatcher
  • Hide the gift and give clues to its location, make it a treasure hunt.
  • Worst case give to charity in their name instead

Important things to remember with everything we post:

  • If you earn over your personal allowance (currently £12,570 a year) HMRC need to get their % cut (even if the money is in cash or from another country)
  • If you’re working for yourself / earning an income on the side you need to let HMRC know – There are numerous benefits but also some drawbacks
  • You need to always ensure whatever you’re doing is legal and not hurting anyone else – be careful and always think twice
  • Some income streams may require you to have DBS check, licence, insurance or qualifications before you can start to profit from it, do your research.
  • Be careful that any additional income doesn’t compromise your studies or main income/job
  • If you work for a company check your contract, if you don’t inform them you’re working on other side projects outside of work they may have grounds to ownership on this work
