The superb Mark Rober gives us an insight into these common Carnival Scams, whilst this is US based many are seen across the UK including at places like Alton Towers, he divides the games into three groups and explains how and why the games are created to trick you:

Random Chance games:

  • Any game that gives similar odds of rolling dice
  • Many involve throwing something into a cup using a light object that bounces
  • No skill is involved

Skill-based games:

  • Basketball Throw
  • Milk Bottle Throw
  • Basket Toss
  • Plates smash with a ball

Near Impossible games / Borderline Scams:

  • Ladder Climb
  • Shooting a star/circle out with a BB GUN
  • Throw a ring around a bottleneck
