Those motorists who have had a parking ticket given by a Police Community Support Officer (PCSOs) may find that the ticket wasn’t legal, West Yorkshire Police have showed that 16,000 tickets going as far back as 2006 could have been wrongly issued.
There is no mention of whether this affects other locations in the UK but if you’ve had a ticket then it might be worth keeping an eye on your local news.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Battle said: “We would like to emphasise that no PCSOs knowingly acted beyond their powers and they believed, as did the force at that time, that they were acting correctly.
“Clearly this is a very complex issue and we are working through a process with HM Courts & Tribunals Service to establish how to resolve matters regarding affected motorists.
“This will include whether drivers issued tickets by PCSOs who did not have appropriate powers will be entitled to refunds for tickets issued, and, if so, how to set up a process for that to take place.”
Expect to wait several weeks or even months before you hear if you’re getting a refund.
