“Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing, than a long life spent in a miserable way”

This is the one video we watch every day. Hope you enjoy. Thank you Alan Watts.

For the people that are bound to comment saying something like “I can’t pay rent with my dreams.”, listen again to the video, listen to this bit especially:

“And after all, if you do really like doing what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter what it is, you can eventually…become a master of IT…and then you’ll be able to get a good fee for whatever it is…somebody is interested in everything. ”

For those wanting the quick route to their dream, here is the truth > There is no quick route, get over it.

It takes roughly 10,000 hours of your life before you will be a master of something and most likely for you and I; we will have to work a crappy job alongside those first 10,000 hours but in the end you will be a master and be ready to charge people a reasonable fee.

Original video (with better imagery):

Important things to remember with everything we post:

  • If you earn over your personal allowance (currently £12,570 a year) HMRC need to get their % cut (even if the money is in cash or from another country)
  • If you’re working for yourself / earning an income on the side you need to let HMRC know – There are numerous benefits but also some drawbacks
  • You need to always ensure whatever you’re doing is legal and not hurting anyone else – be careful and always think twice
  • Some income streams may require you to have DBS check, licence, insurance or qualifications before you can start to profit from it, do your research.
  • Be careful that any additional income doesn’t compromise your studies or main income/job
  • If you work for a company check your contract, if you don’t inform them you’re working on other side projects outside of work they may have grounds to ownership on this work
