How to upgrade your PS4 hard drive to a larger drive

Pick a drive

The PS4 has a 500GB 2.5-inch SATA HDD, these are the same as many laptops but you must ensure that any drives you buy are less than 9.5mm thick, otherwise it won’t fit inside the PS4.

Because of the thickness issue it does limit your choices, especially when considering a 2TB drive.

► 2TB USB3 drive for £53.99 (once added to basket) >http://ebay.to/1MNkFMz

WD 1 TB 2.5-inch SATA Internal Hard Drive – Blue around £51

Seagate 1TB SSHD roughly £69.99

What about going for an external drive and pulling it open to reveal the drive inside, then installing that drive?

This is often a cheaper solution that buying a drive ready to be installed however you must be careful as some drives have direct USB 3 ports ‘welded’ on to the drive. You must ensure the drive inside has a SATA connector

What about going for SSD?

This is a great option and will improve speed, lower heat and reduce noise but will increase the cost as anything above 500GB will cost you a small fortune.

Samsung 500GB SSD £107 or check out the 1TB+ drives on the same link

Important things to remember with everything we post:

  • If you earn over your personal allowance (currently £12,570 a year) HMRC need to get their % cut (even if the money is in cash or from another country)
  • If you’re working for yourself / earning an income on the side you need to let HMRC know – There are numerous benefits but also some drawbacks
  • You need to always ensure whatever you’re doing is legal and not hurting anyone else – be careful and always think twice
  • Some income streams may require you to have DBS check, licence, insurance or qualifications before you can start to profit from it, do your research.
  • Be careful that any additional income doesn’t compromise your studies or main income/job
  • If you work for a company check your contract, if you don’t inform them you’re working on other side projects outside of work they may have grounds to ownership on this work
