Everyone thinks it is the price of fuel that makes flying so expensive but actually that isn’t true, the fuel on the below example works out as 104.7MPG per person!

Here is a run down of the costs:

  • Fuel
  • Crew costs
  • Landing/Takeoff charges at airports (use of the airport)
  • Taxes (varies by country)
  • Cost of the plane divided by the amount of time it has flown
  • Repair costs of aircraft
  • Other business costs for the airline
  • Insurance for the plane
  • Small amount of profit for the airline per person (as little as a few quid per person)
