We might have lost the plot with this one 😂 We're so sick of Easter Eggs (well chocolate in general) having less and less actual chocolate in and more and more palm oil etc, whilst also going up in price, being super thin or shaped like a pebble and having the weight reduced compared with last year. All designed to attract more profit for greedy companies and lower quality/value, without people (hopefully) noticing before they buy!
So this year we're buying (when they go on offer) our favourite chocolate bars (that haven't destroyed their recipe by pumping them with cheaper ingredients) melting them down and making our own Easter Eggs with these moulds.
There are plenty of how-to guides online to copy, and even the website selling the moulds we've bought has a how-to video. They look great, and you can customise them however you want.
Yes, of course it will probably be more expensive than just buying a cheap easter egg (especially when you factor in the time and effort) but the quality, ingredients and taste will actually be what we want and next year the savings will start to roll in as the cost to buy the moulds will be zero and we will have hopefully perfected the process so it will be nice and quick.
The mould is £5.89 delivered ➜ https://10ws.co/3OMbQ2F (aff ad), you could also add two to your basket and get them for £7.79 delivered if you wanted to bulk make them and as we mentioned they also have a video on how to do it but in short you:
1. Pour your melted chocolate into the egg halves (YouTube how to temper chocolate). 2. Hold the mould upside down over a bowl until the excess chocolate has run out, leaving a layer of chocolate around the edge of your mould cavities. 3. Using a scraper, scrape the edge of your mould to level off your egg halves. Repeat the process steps 1-3 for thicker eggs. 4. Place your mould in the fridge until your egg halves are set. You will know when they are set as the chocolate egg halves will easily come away from the mould. 5. To join together, place one half of the egg on a hot pan to melt the edges slightly, then stick to the other half. You could even put extra treats inside your egg before sticking the halves together! You could also be lazy and just melt a bit more chocolate and use it like concrete to stick them together (won't be as neat). 6. Place the full egg in the fridge to set, then you’re ready to decorate and/or eat.
