► Why the hype/excitement about Monzo?
- £0 foreign fees, 0% commission and Mastercard Exchange rate on all foreign purchases. AKA the BEST way to spend money abroad.
So when we go abroad we just take this card and pay for everything in the local currency, if we need cash then we go to a local ATM/cash point and get out money IN THE LOCAL CURRENCY. The app converts it perfectly at the Mastercard exchange rate (the best you can ask for when spending abroad) and we continue our trip. No need to worry about carrying loads of cash around and/or being ripped off by those pesky currency conversion places!
- Instantly freeze the card from the mobile app if you lose the card, instantly 'defrost' the card when you find it again. Useful for my wife... but also gives great piece of mind for many others I'm sure.
- Instant notifications when you spend money, you feel the vibration in your pocket before the till assistant has given you your receipt!
- It's a Pre-Paid Mastercard so is accepted pretty much everywhere, the only places it doesn't work is Pay at Pump petrol stations, Motorway Toll booths and a couple of other similar places.
- When the card is low on funds you just top it up within the app from your main bank card/account, takes 7 seconds (we counted).
- Each transaction is automatically categorised, e.g. it knows Aldi is a supermarket so it categories that spend as 'grocery', you can then set budgeting goals each month and it automatically updates. No need for a 3rd party app or a calculator!
- Instantly pay friends money with the app, fee free
- It's FREE. There are £0 costs. Your card will be sent out the next day. You do have to top up £100 to start using the app but obviously, this is your money to spend once the card arrives (2 days max normally).
