For any expensive items you own that come with a warranty – like cars, appliances, or tech – add the expiry date to your calendar as soon as you buy them (and remember to actually register for the warranty in the first place, many hide behind you having to register the product on the manufacturers website). Set a reminder 1–2 weeks (or even a month) before the warranty ends. That gives you time to check the item over and raise any issues before you’re out of cover. It’s a small habit that can save you hundreds if not thousands, it saved us over £2K on a car once.
“Sharenting” – the act of sharing your child’s life online – might seem harmless, but it can have serious long-term consequences for their future, including their mental health, identity, and (most importantly for us) their financial security.
Think about those security questions we’ve all answered as adults: “What was your first school?” “Who was your favourite teacher?” Now imagine all of that information is already publicly available, posted years ago - searchable by anyone, or surfaced instantly by AI.
You might say, “But I only share with friends.” But accounts get hacked. Screenshots get shared. Devices get lost. Website Data Gets Leaked. And as Catfish has shown us time and again — the people doing harm often already know their victims.
In today’s world, it takes seconds to put someone’s face on someone else’s body.
Is that already happening to your child — without you even realising it? Is it really worth it… for a few likes and heart reacts?
