Daniel Kaizen, 26, from London was a tad drunk and ordered an Uber (taxi) from Old Street to Wood Green, however, he fell asleep and once he woke he found a large £102.17 charge for a journey that should have cost around £15.
The Uber driver had decided to take him east to Barking before following the North Circular round to Wood Green, instead of driving the actual route of through north London.
‘I went to rate the driver because he was a nice guy and I nearly spat out my tea laughing at the route’
‘Well, I was drunk, but DAAAAAAAMN UBER £105, for a £15 journey.’
Uber has apologised and promised to refund the amount within the next few days.
An Uber spokesman said:
‘We are investigating exactly what happened in this instance and have given the rider a full refund.
‘Unlike other transport options Uber offers transparent receipts with a record of every trip and a map of the route taken so if there is an issue it can be resolved.’
How do I get a refund?
First of all, if you request refunds for trips that are legit you will soon be blocked/banned.
- Keep a screenshot of the route (just in case)
- If you believe your fare was charged incorrectly, visit the Trips / History section of the Help menu and select the trip in question to submit your request.
- Click on ‘Need help’ > ‘I had issue with my fare’ > ‘My driver took a poor route’
- Then complete the form and submit details and Uber will review this
