Folks, this is a serious one. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued an immediate safety warning for thousands of households across the UK.
If you own an integrated heat pump tumble dryer manufactured by Haier (but they could be branded as another brand, see below), you need to stop what you are doing and check your machine. A problem has been identified that can cause the machine to set alight.
This isn’t a “maybe” warning—owners are being told to stop using them immediately.
Is Your Machine Affected?
The recall impacts approximately 85,000 units. While Haier is the manufacturer, these machines are sold under several very popular household brand names.
Check your appliance immediately if it is one of the following brands:
- Baumatic
- Candy
- Caple
- Haier
- Hoover
- Iberna
- Lamona
- Montpellier
To check visit the Government website and check your model number.
What You Need To Do Right Now
1. STOP using the machine. The official advice is unequivocal: The appliance must not be used until a repair has been completed.
2. Unplug it. If the plug is accessible, you should switch it off at the wall and unplug the appliance entirely to eliminate any risk.
3. Check your Model and Serial Number. You need to verify if your specific unit is part of the affected batch. You can do this by checking the model and serial number against the database on the government’s website.
4. Arrange a Repair. If your machine is on the list, contact the manufacturer immediately to arrange a free repair. Do not attempt to fix this yourself.
What The Experts Are Saying
Sue Davies, Head of Consumer Policy at Which?, emphasised the urgency of the situation, particularly given the time of year:
“People with tumble dryers manufactured by Haier will understandably be worried about what this announcement means for them.
“The Office for Product Safety and Standards needs to ensure affected machines are fixed as quickly as possible and that affected customers are identified and know what to do so they are not left with a fire risk in their home this Christmas.”
