Garrett Wayman, a burger waiter from Kansas aged 17 was given the shock of his day when we spotted a $20 tip (around £14) waiting for him on a table. As we know in the US the majority of waiting staff rely on tips due to extremely low hourly wages (as low as $3-$5, £2-£3.50 per hour).

‘I was just taken aback because I don’t know if you’ve ever been a server, but whenever you see a $20 tip it’s a big deal.

‘He just left that. I wanted to tell him that I only make $3 an hour and bust my ass at my job to make way less than I deserve, but he was gone by the time I had the chance to.’
