Royal Mail: How to get FREE Delivery Confirmation on your parcels

Royal Mail: How to get FREE Delivery Confirmation on your parcels

From 27th March 2017 if you use the Royal Mail Online Click & Drop website to buy postage you get delivery confirmation as standard on all parcels and large letters.

This gives you enough proof of delivery for eBay, Etsy, Amazon etc in case of a claim against you, ideal for a 2KG 2nd Class Parcel and not bad for £2.82. The ‘signed for’ version of the same would cost £3.90 (saving £1.08).

Once you have purchased your label, it will contain a 2D barcode with a tracking number, please note this is not a tracked service, it will just give delivery confirmation notification when scanned at its destination (the same as a signed for service, which costs £1.08 extra).

Buy directly on this link – You will then be given a special label to print, it contains a 2D barcode and tracking number. You won’t be able to see where the item is but you will get delivery confirmation when it’s scanned at the delivery address (similar to signed service).

You may want to try Hermes Drop Shop if you want to save even more but often Royal Mail will be quicker + less likely to go missing. Hermes do also offer £20 compensation Vs £0 with Royal Mail.

Tips to improve it:

  • Be sure to place the 2D barcode/QR code onto the package ensuring it’s perfectly flat. Any folds, marks, creases etc will cause issues for the staff scanners and you might not get the proof you need if it can’t be scanned
  • Drop items at one of 11,500 Post Office® branches or order a collection
  • You can integrate with eBay if you setup a business account
  • Pay with credit card or PayPal

Important things to remember with everything we post:

  • If you earn over your personal allowance (currently £12,570 a year) HMRC need to get their % cut (even if the money is in cash or from another country)
  • If you’re working for yourself / earning an income on the side you need to let HMRC know – There are numerous benefits but also some drawbacks
  • You need to always ensure whatever you’re doing is legal and not hurting anyone else – be careful and always think twice
  • Some income streams may require you to have DBS check, licence, insurance or qualifications before you can start to profit from it, do your research.
  • Be careful that any additional income doesn’t compromise your studies or main income/job
  • If you work for a company check your contract, if you don’t inform them you’re working on other side projects outside of work they may have grounds to ownership on this work
