After JustEat confirmed KFC & Burger King delivery is live (in limited locations) it seems McDonald’s have realised they need to keep up.
McDonald’s spokeswoman told Mirror.co.uk:
“It is no secret we have been looking at the potential of delivery in recent months.
“This service is offered in other markets around the world and its growth within the UK, continues to gather pace.
“Listening to our customers, we know that this is a route they would like us to explore, and I can confirm that we are looking to launch a small delivery pilot this summer.”
Hangovers just got a whole lot easier
According to The Telegraph, McDonald’s UK chief executive Paul Pomroy said:
“We will start with a delivery service from the right number of sites that gives us scale.
“I expect we will take a similar approach to the way we rolled out our app, starting small, learning quickly and scaling up very quickly.”
It’s unclear at the moment if McDonalds will copy the Domino’s Pizza method of delivery, i.e. using their own drivers or use a 3rd party service like Deliveroo / Amazon Restaurant delivery to deliver the food.
Speaking to Sky News, Mr Pomroy added:
“What’s obvious to us now is that customers now would like McDonald’s to look at delivery.
“We think we’re going to start probably in June.
“We looked at other brands that already do delivery. We’re not the first to deliver. But we want to be a follower that does it in the right way.”
