It requires a special person to “relieve some of the stresses often associated with the Yuletide season, specifically, tangled tree lights”.
“We’re really looking forward to the next stage of the interview process and seeing the potential light untanglers in action.
“But it’s going to be a tough decision as we’ve spotted lots of strong contenders already.”
Tesco said the new £6.70-an-hour recruit would be someone who could “conquer one of the most frustrating jobs of Christmas” and become “the UK’s first ever dedicated Christmas Tree Lights Untangler.
A Tesco spokesman said: “The position will require a friendly helpful demeanour, oodles of patience and of course, the innate knack to be able to untangle even the most scrambled of wires.
“The successful applicant will work full time in the lead up to Christmas, showing that “Every Little Helps”, lending their nimble fingers to customers while they shop.”
Interested applicants must be genuinely passionate about Christmas, says Tesco, and have the ability to untangle three metres of Christmas tree lights in under three minutes.
A typical day could involve untangling up to 60 sets of lights.
Tesco said the pay was on the scale of a customer service employee.
In the job advert, it says the main role and responsibilities will include:
Man and manage the Christmas Lights Untangling stand.
Successfully untangle customers’ Christmas lights neatly, quickly and efficiently and in an orderly fashion.
Check lights and bulbs for signs of breakage / broken bulbs and report findings to the customer.
Create a brilliant customer experience, making sure you deliver only the best service and put a smile on customers’ faces.”
