It’s always important to compare prices for all your bills every 6-12 months, however, for those really suffering now or in the future here are some steps for you to do, remember there are other things you can do as well including receiving Statutory Sick Pay SSP.
Energy (Gas / Electricity) Providers
It would seem all energy providers are acting on a case-by-case basis, and they’re encouraging customers to register for their online services and then to contact them if you’re having financial problems. You may be offered a payment plan (which basically allows you to pay the money owed over a longer period).
Ad: Consider switching to Bulb to get a free £50 or Octopus for a free £50 as well.
Water bills
You cannot swap to a new lower-priced company but Ofwat have stated that all water companies have support available including payment holidays and payment matching. Also, check WaterSure.
Suppliers are also required to inform customers having trouble covering the cost of their bills aware of all available schemes to help them.
Mortgage
“Mortage lenders will offer a three-month ‘mortgage holiday’ for those in financial difficulty due to the outbreak” – Chancellor Rishi Sunak
However, it would seem this isn’t ALL mortgage companies and also it’s down to each mortgage provider to consider who is eligible on a case by case basis.
You will need to prove you’re to be impacted by Coronavirus financially (e.g. lost your job / forced to self-isolate etc).
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you qualify then you won’t make a payment but you will still accrue interest on your mortgage. Be sure to check it won’t affect your credit rating.
Rent
Give them a call, explain the situation and see what they say, you would hope any decent human will understand.
