Ring Is Giving Away Free Outdoor Cameras to Brits — But Only If You’re Aged 18–35

Ring — yes, the Amazon-owned home security brand — is offering 50 completely free outdoor video cameras to young adults in the UK, as part of a new wildlife conservation campaign with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds).

Normally £79.99, the Ring Outdoor Camera Battery (Stick Up Cam) can now be yours for free — if you’re aged 18 to 35 and have a genuine interest in birdwatching.

🐦 But why is Ring doing this?

While most people associate Ring cameras with catching delivery drivers or suspicious movement, a growing number of users have been using their devices to capture stunning wildlife footage — especially in gardens.

Now, Ring has teamed up with the RSPB to encourage more remote birdwatching, with a particular focus on younger generations — and it’s all to help monitor and protect declining bird species like the Starling, Song Thrush and Greenfinch.

Emma Marsh, director of digital tech at RSPB, explains:

“Remote birdwatching plays a crucial role in raising awareness and connecting people to nature… every sighting contributes to our understanding and protection of these vital species.”

📉 Bird numbers are falling — fast

The latest RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch results show:

  • Starling populations have dropped to their lowest levels since records began
  • Song Thrush and Greenfinch numbers have also seen major declines over the past 40 years

Which is why this initiative is so timely — and why Ring is giving away kit to those who can help.

📝 How do you get a free camera?

To apply:

  1. Be aged 18–35 and based in the UK
  2. Fill in a short application form
  3. Write 50 words or less explaining why you want to start birdwatching

That’s it.

Winners will be chosen based on their answers and receive a free Ring Outdoor Camera Battery to get started.

💡 Bonus: If you’re already a Ring subscriber and manage to capture footage of a Starling, Greenfinch or Song Thrush, the RSPB would love you to share it.

🎙️ Ring says…

“We’re always impressed by how our devices can capture remarkable wildlife footage,” says Dave Ward, Managing Director at Ring EU.

“This partnership helps raise awareness of declining bird species while encouraging people to connect with nature — even if it’s just from your back garden.”

🧠 Why this matters

A recent study found that nearly 1 in 4 under-35s are planning to take up birdwatching, a big shift in how younger generations are engaging with nature.

Whether you’re looking for a new mindful hobby, love a good tech freebie, or want to do your bit for conservation — this is a rare win-win opportunity.
