We recommend 4 different sets of speakers
- M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 – around £100 and great bang for your buck, a little on the large size but great all rounders
- Audioengine A2+B Powered Desktop Speakers – The best sound quality, lacking a little bass (due to very compact size) and a little pricey at £200
- Harman/Kardon Soundsticks III – Either loved or hated design wise but loved by their owners, very compact side speakers. Around £100
- Creative GigaWorks T20 Series II – At half the price of the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 they’re the best ‘budget’ option, sound quality is good for the size & ideal for a small student room
What do we use:
Audioengine A2+B Powered Desktop Speakers however it was a very close battle between these and the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 – We needed the compact size so went for these & love them!
- 1/3 the size of the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40
- More expensive than the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40
- Better mid-range & treble, but inferior bass/volume compared with M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 however it does have line out for a subwoofer add on in the future
I don’t have £100+ to spend, what are my options?
- Creative GigaWorks T20 Series II – around £60
- Logitech Z323 – around £40
- Logitech Z120 – around £15
- Logitech Z130 – around £18-£20
- Creative Inspire T10 – around £30
Speakers to avoid (unless you can get an awesome deal / money is very tight)
- Bose ® Companion ® 2 Series III – Poor sound for the price, however they do look nice (not really the point of speakers though!)
